The Story of St. Patrick's Day

Why people come to celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Do you know that the first country held St. Patrick's Day Parade is the United States?

It reminds us that Christmas Day is the festival to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Americans changed it from a religious holiday into a family day of peace and nostalgia in the 19th century.

It is well know that American is consist of immigrants from different countries, especially from European. Irish Americans are an ethnic group of Americans who have full or partial ancestry from Ireland. The Potato Famine is one of the most famous history happened in Ireland. It kills more than 1 million people. As a result Irish Immigration came to America between 1845 and 1855. Most of them are poor, and many of them were suffering from starvation and diseases. More than 1.5 millions people immigrate from Ireland to New York, Boston, and other cities.

According to the survey conducted by American Community Survey, Ancestry of Irish in the United States is up to 10.6% in 2015, roughly 33.3 million people. The large amount of population provide the advantage of the widespread of the Irish festival.

What country start to celebrate it with great parade?

The first parade is held by New York City back to the year of 1762. It's not in Ireland but on the streets of lower Manhattan. (insert photo) Today, millions of Americans of Irish ancestry celebrate their own heritage and culture across the United States. More and more Irish families enjoy and engaged in the great parade.
